Students with little to no experience playing guitar are welcome to learn their first chords in group guitar lessons with Jon Mirsky - a live-performing musician and music educator of all ages. Students will learn good posture and hand positioning to ensure their playing experience is comfortable, efficient, and safe. Picking and strumming will be taught and eventually paired with single-string melodies and open chords. Basic concepts in music theory will be introduced such as the musical alphabet, names of the strings and fretted notes, and note durations. Students will be encouraged to share their favorite songs and artists; as they progress, we will start to learn some of their favorite songs! Guitar tablature and sheet music will be provided. Let's get rocking!
This course requires parents to purchase their child's instrument to be used during class sessions. This course is taught by a Hunter after-school teacher, Mr. Jon. Instructional times are from 2:45pm to 4:00pm.
From 4:00pm to 4:10pm, students are cleaning up/packing up and transiting to dismissal, clubs, or study nest.
After enrichment classes, Hawk's Nest students have the opportunity to choose and participate in after-school clubs, study nest, and free play from 4:15pm to 5:30pm. Please see the club schedule in the table below:
