Class Description:

Join us on an exciting journey with "Nature Explorers," where students in grades 2-6 will delve into the wonders of wildlife and ecosystems. This class offers a hands-on approach to discovering the intricate connections between living organisms and their environments. Participants will engage in activities such as building birdhouses, creating wildlife habitats, and studying the roles of different species within an ecosystem. Through nature walks and observation tasks, students will learn to identify local flora and fauna, fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

Impact on Educational and Personal Growth:
Nature Explorers aims to cultivate an understanding of environmental science and promote stewardship of the earth. Students will enhance their observational skills, learn to appreciate biodiversity, and develop a sense of responsibility towards conserving nature. The course encourages teamwork and communication as students collaborate on projects, bolstering their confidence and social skills. This immersive experience will inspire curiosity and a lifelong commitment to environmental care.

Sample Lessons:

  1. Habitat Builders: Students construct birdhouses and learn about the importance of providing safe spaces for wildlife.
  2. Ecosystem Interactions: Explore food chains and webs by creating visual maps of local ecosystems.
  3. Plant Identification: Nature walks to identify and catalog native plants, flowers, and trees.
  4. Wildlife Observation: Conduct field studies to observe animal behaviors and understand their roles in the ecosystem.

Please Note: This course is nonrefundable after 09/19/2025.

Program Schedule:

  • Students have a supervised snack period in the HCCS cafeteria from 2:20pm to 2:45pm.
  • Instructional sessions are scheduled from 2:45pm to 4:00pm, followed by a brief transition period for students from 4:00pm to 4:15pm.
  • After classes and transitioning, students can participate in various engaging after-school activities from 4:15pm to 5:30pm.
  • Options include joining student clubs, studying in the HCES library (for grades 2-6) or attending storytelling sessions (for grades K-1), and having free play in the cafeteria or courtyard.
