Class Description:
"Science Through Play" invites our youngest learners to discover the magic of science through interactive and playful activities. This class is designed to captivate K-2 students with fun experiments that encourage exploration and imagination. Each week, children will engage in simple yet captivating projects such as making rainbow milk, building mini volcanoes, and crafting paper airplanes to understand basic physics principles. Through guided play, students will explore scientific concepts and develop a love for discovery.

Impact on Educational and Personal Growth:
This class is tailored to spark a passion for science by integrating play into learning. By participating in these activities, children will enhance their motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and creativity. The supportive atmosphere promotes social interaction and cooperation, helping students build friendships and confidence. "Science Through Play" is an enriching experience that sets the foundation for a lifelong journey of scientific inquiry.

Sample Lessons:

  1. Rainbow Milk: Explore color mixing and chemical reactions with a simple milk and food coloring experiment.
  2. Mini Volcanoes: Create eruptions using baking soda and vinegar, introducing basic chemistry concepts.
  3. Paper Airplane Physics: Design and test different airplane models to learn about aerodynamics and gravity.
  4. Floating and Sinking: Experiment with various objects to understand buoyancy and density.

 

Please Note: This course is nonrefundable after 09/19/2025.

Program Schedule:

  • Students have a supervised snack period in the HCCS cafeteria from 2:20pm to 2:45pm.
  • Instructional sessions are scheduled from 2:45pm to 4:00pm, followed by a brief transition period for students from 4:00pm to 4:15pm.
  • After classes and transitioning, students can participate in various engaging after-school activities from 4:15pm to 5:30pm.
  • Options include joining student clubs, studying in the HCES library (for grades 2-6) or attending storytelling sessions (for grades K-1), and having free play in the cafeteria or courtyard. [Details about these activities, including club descriptions, schedules, and sign-up information, will be shared during the first week of school.]
