Course Overview:

The 3rd & 4th Grade Debate course, provided by Hawk's Nest, is designed to introduce young students to the fundamentals of debate and public speaking. This engaging and interactive program will cover essential skills such as constructing arguments, developing critical thinking, and enhancing communication abilities. Through a series of structured debates, role-playing exercises, and collaborative activities, students will learn to articulate their thoughts clearly and confidently. The course will also teach the importance of active listening and respectful discourse, ensuring that students express their own ideas and understand and appreciate differing viewpoints.

Educational and Personal Growth Impact:

Participating in the 3rd & 4th Grade Debate course benefits students academically by improving research and critical thinking skills. Personally, it boosts self-esteem, confidence, public speaking, and empathy. The course fosters responsibility, self-discipline, and the ability to consider multiple perspectives, preparing students for academic success and community engagement.

 

Please Note: This course is nonrefundable after 02/14/2025.

Program Schedule:

  • Students have a supervised snack period in the HCCS cafeteria from 2:20pm to 2:45pm.
  • Instructional sessions are scheduled from 2:45pm to 4:00pm, followed by a brief transition period for students from 4:00pm to 4:15pm.
  • After classes and transitioning, students can participate in various engaging after-school activities from 4:15pm to 5:30pm.
  • Options include joining student clubs, studying in the HCES library (for grades 2-6) or attending storytelling sessions (for grades K-1), and having free play in the cafeteria or courtyard. [Details about these activities, including club descriptions, schedules, and sign-up information, will be shared during the first week of school.]
