Advanced Mathematics

Course Overview:
This course is designed for students who have demonstrated strong proficiency in mathematics and are ready for a more challenging curriculum. Throughout the course, students will engage in various activities, exercises, and projects that will deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts and develop their problem-solving skills.
The course will employ various teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and keep students engaged. These may include hands-on activities, group work, games, simulations, and problem-solving challenges.
Sample Lessons:
- Number theory: prime and composite numbers, factors, multiples, and divisibility
- Geometry: lines, angles, polygons, and symmetry
- Measurement: length, perimeter, area, volume, and mass
- Data analysis: collecting, organizing, and interpreting data using charts, graphs, and tables.
- Algebraic thinking: patterns, equations, and variables
- Problem-solving: applying mathematical concepts to real-world problems and situations
Please Note: This course is nonrefundable after 02/14/2025.
- Students have a supervised snack period in the HCCS cafeteria from 2:20pm to 2:45pm.
- Instructional sessions are scheduled from 2:45pm to 4:00pm, followed by a brief transition period for students from 4:00pm to 4:15pm.
- After classes and transitioning, students can participate in various engaging after-school activities from 4:15pm to 5:30pm.
- Options include joining student clubs, studying in the HCES library (for grades 2-6) or attending storytelling sessions (for grades K-1), and having free play in the cafeteria or courtyard.
