Description

Broadway Beats

Taught by Hawk's Nest Teacher Mr. Sawyer

Course Overview

In this class, students will take a journey through the history of musical theater, starting with its roots in vaudeville (1890s-1930s) going all the way up until our current era. They will learn about the different styles of music and dance that have shaped the art form of the Broadway musical and the incredible artists that gave them to us. Sondheim, Lloyd Webber, Kander and Ebb—all of these composers and lyricists will become old friends to your young actor alongside great choreographers like Fosse and Bennett. Students will learn about all the moving parts involved in not only creating a musical, but getting it to Broadway. This class will culminate in a small showcase that the students will create with the teacher’s help to show their grown-ups their newfound knowledge of this exciting art form.
