Happy Feet Jr. Tap Dance

Course Overview:

This exciting class is designed to introduce children to the joy of tap dancing while developing their coordination, musicality, and confidence. Students will learn basic tap dance steps through engaging activities and playful routines, improve their balance, and discover the magic of making music with their feet. Our experienced instructor will guide your child through a series of interactive sessions filled with laughter and learning. From energetic warm-ups to lively dance combinations, each class will inspire young dancers to express themselves through the art of tap.

Sample Lessons:

  • Introduction to Basic Tap Steps: Engaging stretching routines and rhythmic clapping to warm the body. Introduction to fundamental tap movements such as shuffles, flaps, and toe taps. Combining the learned steps into a simple routine set to lively music. Gentle stretching and a review of the day's lesson.
  • Musicality and Rhythm: Rhythm-focused activities using claps and stomps to emphasize timing. Learning to distinguish between slow and fast beats through tap techniques. Crafting a brief dance sequence that matches the music's tempo. Stretching and a brief discussion on how rhythm impacts dance.
  • Balance and Coordination: Balance-enhancing exercises and basic yoga poses for stability. Practicing movements involving hopping and weight distribution between feet. An energetic dance routine with balanced elements like hops and slides. Relaxing stretches and a feedback session to reflect on the lesson.

 

Please Note: This course is nonrefundable after 02/14/2025.

Program Schedule:

  • Students have a supervised snack period in the HCCS cafeteria from 2:20pm to 2:45pm.
  • Instructional sessions are scheduled from 2:45pm to 4:00pm, followed by a brief transition period for students from 4:00pm to 4:15pm.
  • After classes and transitioning, students can participate in various engaging after-school activities from 4:15pm to 5:30pm.
  • Options include joining student clubs, studying in the HCES library (for grades 2-6) or attending storytelling sessions (for grades K-1), and having free play in the cafeteria or courtyard.
