Animal Explorers: Discovering the Secrets of the Animal Kingdom
Provided by Hawk's Nest Teacher, Ms. Coleman
Course Overview:
Spring is a time when many animals are emerging from hibernation, migrating, or reproducing, making it a great opportunity to study their behaviors and life cycles. In this course, students will explore the world of animals, focusing on how they adapt to their environments and interact with their habitats. They will learn about different animal species, from mammals and birds to reptiles, amphibians, and insects. Students will investigate how animals hunt, migrate, build homes, and communicate.
Students will also engage in fieldwork, observing local wildlife and visiting animal habitats (zoo, parks, or virtual animal tours). They will learn about animal behaviors like migration patterns, feeding habits, and social structures (e.g., in wolves or ants). Each week, students will focus on a specific type of animal or ecosystem, learning how the animals' physical features and behaviors help them survive in their unique environments.
