Blast Off!: An Introduction to Astronomy and the Mysteries of Space
Provided by Hawk's Nest Science Teacher, Ms. Coleman
Blast off into an exciting adventure as we explore the wonders of outer space! In this hands-on course, young astronauts will discover the amazing world beyond our planet, from the shining stars above to the planets in our solar system. Through fun crafts, interactive games, and easy-to-understand experiments, students will become Space Explorers, learning all about the sun, moon, stars, and the planets that orbit the sun.
Each week, students will take a new "mission" to explore different parts of space. They’ll learn about the moon’s phases, how rockets travel to space, and why stars twinkle. Students will also get to make their own model rockets, create a paper solar system, and observe the phases of the moon using simple, fun activities that bring space science to life. Along the way, they’ll discover how gravity works, how planets move, and what it takes to be an astronaut exploring space!
By the end of the semester, students will have a better understanding of the world beyond Earth, gain excitement about space exploration, and develop a curiosity about the universe that will inspire them to keep learning about space for years to come.
